“Just have Copilot write the NCR.”
It will, with a lot number, a cause and a disposition nobody gave it. Learn to give it your facts, forbid new ones and trace every line before MRB sees it.
AI AT WORK · AI FOR QUALITY TEAMS
Decide what may go into an AI tool, give it your facts, check every line and keep the record. Put AI to work on NCRs, CAPA, procedures, supplier follow-ups, complaints and audit prep, while a named person makes every call.
Show how you keep AI in check: a data gate, a traced NCR, an AI assistance record, the start of an AI use procedure and an assessed completion credential.

THE AI IS ALREADY IN THE BUILDING
It will, with a lot number, a cause and a disposition nobody gave it. Learn to give it your facts, forbid new ones and trace every line before MRB sees it.
Enterprise terms cover what the vendor does with your data, like not training on it. They don't clear ITAR drawings, CUI or customer data your contract restricts. Classify the data before any prompt.
The ISO 9001 Auditing Practices Group published guidance for auditors on quality systems that use AI in May 2026. Have the procedure, the records and the error log ready to show.
WHY IT MATTERS NOW
of 2,263 manufacturing managers and directors surveyed in early 2026 reported using AI in quality processes, up from 33% in 2025.
Source: Octave, Pulse of Quality in Manufacturing 2026, a vendor-commissioned survey (run by Censuswide) of managers and directors at firms with 1,000 or more employees in the US, UK and Germany.
When AI drafts an NCR, a summary or a procedure and gets it wrong, it's wrong in the same confident voice as when it's right, and the company owns the result.
In a May 2026 survey, 41% of manufacturers said they currently provide no AI-related training to frontline employees. Source: National Association of Manufacturers, Q2 2026 Manufacturers' Outlook Survey.
In April 2026, FDA told one firm that output from an AI agent must be reviewed and cleared by an authorized person in its quality unit. Different rules than AS9100, same lesson: AI drafts, a named person decides.
WHAT YOU BUILD
Which data may go into which tool, which never goes into any, and who at your site says yes for export-controlled data and CUI.
Ten fields for AI-assisted work that touches acceptance, release, disposition or a customer, a light log for everything else, and an AI error log.
Its eleven sections, from purpose and scope to periodic review, plus your answers to an auditor's AI questions, with the evidence for each.
Use fictional or authorized, redacted data to document your application. Employer recognition depends on your role and demonstrated results.
EARN IT. KNOW WHAT IT MEANS.
Complete the six labs and module reflections. Pass the 30-question final exam at 80 percent and an unseen final case study: a data gate, an AI-drafted record with planted errors, an AI assistance record, a procedure fix and five audit questions. A reviewer scores the case, usually within 5 business days. You need 16/20 on the case and 10/12 on its six decisions, with no unresolved critical error.
Three distinct exam versions, three attempts and a 24-hour wait after an unsuccessful attempt. The online exam is unsupervised.
The certificate records completion of this training and its assessments. It is not accreditation, a license or proof of competence; your employer decides who is competent.

Your AI quality and compliance colleague asks where a line came from, points you back to the record and gives hints that get more specific each time you ask. Check its output against your records.
During the final case study it explains the task and helps you find your way around. It doesn't mark the errors or write your answers.
You: The Copilot draft says the four parts were scrapped per MRB. MRB meets at 2. Can I send it?
Coach Q: Before it goes anywhere: what does the inspector's note say about those parts right now?
Coach Q: If the note says they're on hold, that line is the AI making MRB's call. Which other lines can you trace to the note, and which can't you?
PUT AI TO WORK
Give the tool four parts: the role and task, your facts, the format and the rules, including one that makes it write MISSING instead of guessing. Ask for a source line behind every claim, and run challenge and checklist prompts built from your own procedures.
Then trace every fact before anything reaches MRB, a supplier or a customer, set the review by risk and log what the AI got wrong. The lessons and labs work through NCRs, an 8D, a supplier corrective action, complaint themes and audit prep.
It works with the AI tool your company approves. You can do every lab without one, using fictional sample outputs. At work, follow your company's written rules on what goes in.
PRIMARY SOURCES, PRACTICAL APPLICATION
The course works from the ISO 9001 Auditing Practices Group paper on auditing a QMS that uses AI (May 2026, guidance for auditors, which we paraphrase), FDA's April 2026 warning letter to Purolea Cosmetics Lab (its section on AI), NIST's Generative AI Profile (NIST AI 600-1), and the ITAR, EAR and CUI rules as published on eCFR.
