Why a mentor

Getting good at your job isn't the same as getting trusted.

Good work goes unseen.

You fix the problem at 6pm and nobody hears about it. Trust goes to the people whose results get seen.

Advice is generic. Your situation isn't.

The only person in a department and the leader of a team of twenty need different answers. So do a startup and a 2,000-person plant.

AI made answers cheap.

Anyone can get a draft in seconds. What's scarce now is judgment: knowing which draft is right, and saying so.

Nobody plans your growth but you.

Managers are busy and good mentors are rare. Most people grow by accident, a little each year.

How it works

A mentor that starts from where you're going.

Most advice starts from the problem in front of you. Your mentor starts from the person you want to become, then works back to this week.

01

Set your North Star

What you want to be known for, your 1, 3 and 5-year goals, your field, your company and the hats you wear. About 4 minutes.

02

Get your plan

Milestones that change how you're seen, this week's three moves and the traps to steer around.

03

Ask any time

A hard call at 9pm? Ask. Type it, say it, show a photo or send the file.

04

Check in every week

Five minutes on what worked, what didn't and what's in your way. Next week's plan adjusts.

How your mentor thinks

It thinks before it answers.

Most advice piles on more: more meetings, more tools, more effort. Your mentor works from first principles, cuts before it adds, and checks how a plan could fail before you bet on it. For the big calls, tick Think it through and it shows its working notes.

01

Find the real problem

One sentence. What's actually happening, how often and what it costs. Facts kept apart from guesses.

02

Strip it to what's true

What does your customer, your boss or your team actually need? Start there, not from habit.

03

Question the assumptions

Who says it has to be done this way, and what breaks if it changes? The real rules stay.

04

Cut before you add

The best fix is often a step you stop doing. More meetings and more tools come last.

05

See the failure first

Before you act, picture it six months out and failing. Then block the likeliest causes.

06

Test small, check in

One change, one measure, one date. Your weekly check-in looks at what happened.

YOU · 9:12 PM

My boss offered me a second team to manage. More visibility, no raise yet. Should I take it?

Your mentor

Picture it six months from now and it went badly. What happened? Usually one of three things: both teams get half of you, the new team's old problems land on your desk, or the "later" on pay never gets a date. So before you answer, ask for three things: what success looks like at six months, what comes off your plate, and when your pay gets reviewed against that. Clear answers make this a strong move toward being seen as someone who can lead more. Want me to draft how you'd ask?

Sample conversation

However you work

Type it, say it, show it, or send the file.

Careers don't wait at a desk. Ask by voice on the walk to your car, show your mentor what's in front of you, or hand it the document you're stuck on. In most browsers it can read each answer aloud, too.

01

Type it

At your desk, between meetings, at 9:40 at night. Short answers, the next move first.

02

Say it

Talk it through out loud and hear the answer back. Hands-free talk mode keeps the conversation going.

03

Show it

Snap the whiteboard, the chart, the slide or the setup in front of you. It tells you what it sees and what it can't.

04

Send the file

The plan, the report, the proposal, the procedure. PDF, Word, text or CSV.

One method behind every mentor

Your goal first. Then the work.

The Quality mentor works this way today, and every new mentor is built on the same method.

What your mentor does

  • Starts from what you want to be known for
  • Plans three moves a week and checks in on them
  • Thinks from first principles and shows how a plan could fail
  • Takes text, voice, photos and files
  • Set up for your field and the size of your company
  • Keeps your goal across every conversation
  • Drafts the documents that move your career
  • Holds the line on ethics

What it doesn't

  • Promise you a raise or a promotion
  • Make your decisions for you
  • Sign or approve anything
  • Replace your manager or the people in your corner
It won't help you cut corners

Trust built on shortcuts doesn't last. Ask your mentor to fudge a number, backdate a record or bury a problem, and it's set up to say no, then help you raise it the right way. Being the person people trust starts there.

Why not just ask a chatbot?

A chatbot answers your question. A mentor asks where you're going.

About status and money

We won't promise you a raise. Here's what we will do.

Nobody honest can promise a raise or a promotion. What tends to come first is trust. People who make good calls, make their work visible and keep their word get handed the bigger work, and pay and titles can follow.

That's what your mentor works on with you, one week at a time: the calls, the visibility and the follow-through.

Who built it

Built by someone who's had to make the calls.

Will Trikha

Third-party registrar auditor with 20+ years in aerospace quality, and founder of QMS Learning. He built the mentor's method from the calls he's had to make on his way up, and the ones he wishes someone had helped him think through. Each new mentor opens when it's ready, not before.

Questions

What is a Career Mentor?

An AI mentor built around your career goal. It learns what you want to be known for, your field and your role, then helps you plan each week, think through hard calls and keep growing. It coaches; you decide.

Is it a person?

No. It's AI, set up with QMS Learning's mentor method. Keep your human mentors. This one is there at 9pm when they aren't, and it remembers your goal every time.

Which mentors can I join today?

Quality, through the Quality Career Membership. Leadership, Sales, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Cybersecurity are coming. Join a waitlist and we'll email you the day yours opens.

How much does it cost?

The Quality mentor is $499 for 12 months: one payment, no auto-renewal, and a refund if you ask within 3 days of purchase. Each new mentor's price is shared when it opens.

Will it get me a raise or a promotion?

We can't promise that, and we won't. Your mentor helps with what usually comes first: making good calls, getting your work seen by the right people and following through every week.

Is what I tell it private?

Your conversations, photos and files stay with your account, and only you can open them. They're never used to train AI models. Leave out anything confidential, like customer names or export-controlled data; your mentor works in general terms. To export or delete your data, email will@qmslearning.com.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in your phone's browser. Type, talk or snap a photo. Voice typing uses your browser's built-in speech service (Google in Chrome, Apple in Safari).

Can my company pay, or buy it for a team?

For the Quality mentor, use a company card at checkout. For an invoice or a team, email will@qmslearning.com. On a waitlist, tell us your team size and we'll reach out when it opens.

When do the new mentors open?

When each one is ready. Waitlist signups help decide the order, so join the one you want.

Stop figuring out your career alone.
