Sound familiar?

If you sign for parts or ship them, you've heard these.

The broker says the cert will follow. Put them in stock.

A broker's own packing slip names no prior source and meets no row of the Appendix A matrix, so the lot waits on hold. Chasing paper afterward is how cert-to-follow lots end as write-offs. ASA-100 Accredited Distributor teaches what each kind of part needs before the PO goes out.

Release a hundred to keep Monday moving. Hold the rest.

Once suspect parts are released, they're in product, and you can't contain a lot you've already split. Counterfeit Parts Avoidance drills the first 15 minutes: cage the lot, set the ERP hold, tell people in writing and seal samples before anyone tests.

The customer overseas wants a ship date today. Just quote it.

Not on an unclassified part. Its classification sets the authorization, the lead time and who may see the drawings, and jurisdiction comes from the paragraph text, not the end use. ITAR Compliance teaches you to classify on paper, then quote.

You've shadowed the dock all week. Go ahead and sign them in.

Shadowing isn't an authorization. ASA-100 section 4 wants anyone who inspects trained, authorized in writing and on a roster for each function they perform. ASA-100 Accredited Distributor shows you how to set that up so every signature on a receiving record holds up.

What it does for you

Become the one they bring the suspect lot to.

A signature that holds up

You'll know what each certificate proves and what it doesn't. When an auditor or a customer asks how you knew, your receiving record answers for you.

The first call before a broker buy

AOG pressure and cert-to-follow promises land on purchasing. The person who knows what a deal needs on paper, and what makes a lot suspect, gets asked before the PO goes out.

Proof on your record

Counterfeit Parts Avoidance and ITAR Compliance end with a final exam, and every course ends with a certificate anyone can verify. No course promises a raise or a title. The skill and the record are what that conversation runs on.

No course can promise you a raise or a title. What you'll have is the skill, the work to show for it and a certificate anyone can verify. That's what those conversations run on.

Why it matters

A release certificate is a claim. Someone at receiving has to test it.

60,000

From January 2019 to July 2023, UK-based parts trader AOG Technics sold over 60,000 aircraft engine parts with forged Authorised Release Certificates, the UK Serious Fraud Office said when its director was sentenced in February 2026.

Source: UK Serious Fraud Office, press release, February 23, 2026

Its director doctored genuine release certificates on his home computer and made up shipment memos so the parts looked bought straight from the manufacturers. A manufacturer spotted a fake certificate and alerted the authorities. UK, US and EU regulators issued safety alerts on all of the firm's parts, and planes were grounded around the world.

Good receiving checks every certificate three ways: is it complete, does it agree with itself and your history, and can the source confirm it. And if you distribute parts, the paperwork you put in the box is what your customer's receiving inspection checks.

The full path

Paperwork first. Then suspect parts. Then the export line.

Start with the paperwork, because every part needs it coming in and going out. Then go deeper on suspect and counterfeit parts, and finish with ITAR for what you ship and who sees the drawings. Each course stands alone.

  1. Step 1 · Know what paper each part needs

    ASA-100 Accredited Distributor

Work through ASA-100 Rev 5.0 section by section: the Appendix A paperwork matrix, the five receiving checks, shelf life, suspect part segregation, records kept seven years from the sale, and the road to accreditation.

You walk out with a receiving dock card, a suspect and nonconforming material procedure, a records retention matrix and a 90-day accreditation readiness plan, prepared for your own operation.

  2. Step 2 · Spot it, hold it, report it

    Counterfeit Parts Avoidance

Learn the six types of counterfeit and their tells, the test ladder from microscope to decapsulation, the first 15 minutes with a suspect lot, and when the FAR 52.246-26 reporting clock starts. It ends with a 50-question final exam.

You walk out with a 15-minute containment checklist, a suspect counterfeit part report, a sourcing hierarchy and channel memo, and a 90-day prevention roadmap.

  3. Step 3 · Know where the export line is

    ITAR Compliance

Learn to classify a part from the USML paragraph before you quote a ship date, tell who counts as a foreign person, and match each export to a license, agreement or exemption. It ends with a 49-question final exam.

You walk out with a jurisdiction and classification record, a Technology Control Plan review, an exemption analysis memo and a 90-day ITAR roadmap, checked against your own shop.

Coach Q · from ASA-100 Accredited Distributor

A customer wants an FAA Form 8130-3 on every line of MS20470AD4 rivets. We have the producer's C of C on file. Do we need an 8130-3?
COACH Q

Not under ASA-100. For standard parts, the Appendix A matrix asks for a C of C from the producer or seller on receipt. For shipment, it asks for a certified true copy of that C of C plus a statement that the original certified statement is on file.

A distributor can't issue an 8130-3, so don't promise one. If the customer's contract truly asks for more than the ASA-100 minimum, that's a conversation for sales and the buyer before the order ships, not something to paper over.

Want me to prepare a short reply to the buyer that lists exactly what will ship with the rivets?

Who built it

Written by an auditor who also lives on the supplier side.

Will Trikha

Founder and CEO, QMS Learning · Third-party registrar auditor

Will Trikha is a third-party registrar auditor with more than 20 years in aerospace and quality. He built these courses from ASA-100 and AC 00-56B, the SAE counterfeit standards and DFARS clauses, and 22 CFR 120 to 130, and wrote them the way an auditor works: pull the record, test it, write what it shows.

He's COO of PTX Defense, an AS9100D-certified aerospace manufacturer, so he lives with these requirements from the supplier side: the clauses a customer flows down, the suppliers that get approved and the lots that cross the dock. He founded QMS Leader, which implements quality management systems for manufacturers.

Questions

Straight answers.

Do I have to take them all?

No. Each course stands on its own, with its own certificate, and lesson 1 is free on each one. The path is the order we'd take them in.

Where should I start?

If you buy from brokers or independent distributors, start with Counterfeit Parts Avoidance. If you sell aircraft parts or want ASA-100 accreditation, start with ASA-100 Accredited Distributor. If defense parts or drawings could reach a foreign person, here or abroad, start with ITAR Compliance.

Is this an accredited certification, or ASA accreditation?

No. Each course gives you a certificate from QMS Learning that anyone can check at academy.qmslearning.com/verify. Counterfeit Parts Avoidance and ITAR Compliance each end with a final exam. None of it accredits your company: distributor accreditation comes from an audit under the AC 00-56B program, and it isn't effective until your company is listed in the program's accredited distributor database.

We hold AS9120. Does ASA-100 still matter?

AS9120 certification and accreditation under AC 00-56B are separate things, and accreditation isn't effective until you're listed in the program's database. ASA-100 Accredited Distributor teaches the ASA-100 route and shows where AS9120 fits alongside it. AS9120 for Distributors is on the way.

Can I give Coach Q our drawings?

No. Never drawings, other technical data or CUI, and never GIDEP or ERAI material outside its terms. Those stay out of every AI tool, Coach Q included. Describe the situation in general terms or use the course's fictional cases. No AI tool makes or changes a certificate, and named people at your company decide, sign and disposition parts. Classification, license and disclosure calls stay with your Empowered Official and counsel.

Training a team?

Open any course on the path and pick how many people before you check out. Five or more people get 10% off every seat, applied at checkout. Each person gets their own login, private coach, study plan and certificate. More than 50 people, or need an invoice instead? Email will@qmslearning.com for a quote.

How long do I keep access?

The lessons are yours for life, and Coach Q comes with your course and stays with you after you finish. There's no subscription or renewal fee.

Does the course keep up when the rules change?

Yes, for the edition it teaches. When the rules or guidance behind this course change, we update the lessons and the coach's setup, and you get the update at no extra charge. When a new edition replaces the standard, we point you to the transition training. Your conversations with Coach Q aren't used to train AI models.
